so·cie·tas
A society. A fellowship. A group of people who probably should have just called it a cycling club, but didn't.
Members
Charlie O'Brien
Charlie's heart belongs to the road, though he dabbles in mountain biking and talks a big gravel game he has yet to back up. As Societas's founder, he'd rather get gloriously lost on a new route than ride the same twelve miles for the hundredth time. He also has a major need for speed.
Rob O'Brien
Rob likes riding with other people and riding fast, and sometimes doing both at once. He like road and mountain biking, and sometimes races those and triathlons. His idea of heaven is a long weekend morning ride out to breakfast to avoid youth soccer schlepping duty. Rob usually rides out of West Newton.
Becky O'Brien
Becky is Societas's silent member, and may not know her photo is on this website. A longtime spin-class veteran, she's since traded the studio for open road, chasing endurance events like the Cape Cod Getaway and the Hungry Lion.
Joey Farrell
Joey is Societas's resident mixed-surface enthusiast, always chasing the next unridden route. He owns enough bikes to make n+1 look conservative, but his Parlee Chewbacco stays closest to home. Ask him about the Berkshires and clear your afternoon: he's got hidden routes out west he doesn't share with just anyone.
John Szabo
John rides a Canyon Ultimate and never met a piece of gear he didn't want to try. You'll find him logging miles through Metro West, or hauling his kids to school on the Tern cargo bike. Every mile is less time spent at his desk. Charlie and Rob have been trying to talk him into racing for two seasons running. He also says he's getting into mountain biking. We're still waiting on proof.
Andrew Szabo
Andrew races on Zwift and hunts secondhand bikes in real life, with a strong preference for free, hand-me-downs. He has, by now, more or less cornered the club's used bike market. If your frame's up for grabs, he already knows.
Chris Ryan
Bio coming soon.
Annie O'Brien
Annie is happiest on Maine's coastal roads. Salty air, wind, lobster rolls, and all. She's been lobbying for a kit redesign: more pink, more purple, less navy. Rob maintains she doesn't need a new bike. Annie disagrees.
